Nations and individuals are waking up to the harmful effects that plastic bags have on the environment. Vikash Kedia, is a green crusader, who aims to spread awareness about dangers of plastic bag use and also offers an alternative. A decade ago, he started Shree Jeen Marketing with the aim of manufacturing and exporting jute and cotton bags. Starting with exporting to Bhutan, the business expanded and now the company exports to Fiji and the United Kingdom as well. Vikash is confident the business is well situated to grow given that governments around the world are now increasingly cognisant of the fact that jute and cotton bags are eco-friendly and cost effective in the long run, thereby helping solve the problems that plastic bags create in societies. Vikash’s big business dream is to continue to grow his export business and export to many more countries.
In conversation with GlobalLinker (GL) Vikash Kedia (VK), shares his business journey.
GL: Tell us about your business.
VK: We are manufacturers and exporters of jute and cotton bags. Currently the world is being taken over by plastic bags which is polluting our environment and has the far-reaching consequence of destroying nature and mankind. With the sole aim to protect our precious environment and mankind at large, we at Shree Jeen Marketing started manufacturing non-plastic bags, which are eco-friendly and cost effective in the long run.
I have vast experience in the field of eco-friendly bags and established this company a decade ago. Now, we have established ourselves as manufacturer and exporter of eco-friendly bags.
We believe in creating the bags according to the specific needs of our valuable customers and thus create customized designs. Our bags are recyclable, which in turn helps in protecting nature.
Every government around the world incurs the massive cost to clean the menace of plastic bags disposed after every use. Self-aware and environmentally conscious states and individuals are increasingly adopting jute and cotton bags as a sustainable option and minimizing the use of plastics.
GL: Share with us your export journey.
VK: Our main clients are in Bhutan and subsequently I got other enquiries on my website. Over time we started exporting to Fiji and the U.K. Now we are looking at buyers from other overseas markets.
We pride ourselves on providing quality eco-friendly products at the best rates in the market. We ensure timely delivery of products. Moreover, our products are customised to the requirements of the customers. We are extremely happy that our clients are satisfied with us and we are looking forward to growing.
GL: What are the challenges you have faced in establishing your business?
VK: Figuring out the documentation was necessary for us in our export journey. It is vital to do documentation accurately.
GL: What is your assessment of the exports market for your product?
VK: There is huge demand for our products from all over the world and demand will increase day by day because of awareness about the harmful effects of plastic. We are sometimes asked why people should use eco-friendly bags? The answer lies in the question itself – because it is eco-friendly and also cost effective. We all know that buying plastic bags is very cheap say - 1/50th of the cost of eco-friendly bag in some cases. However, in the long run with its reusable and recyclable properties, these eco-friendly bags are more cost effective.
GL: What is your big business dream?
VK: “Use jute to save the earth is our motto”. We want to export our products all over the world and play our part in reducing mankind’s carbon footprint.
GL: What is your message to aspiring entrepreneurs?
VK: For a successful export business, you must have proper documentation in place and be compliant with all the rules and regulations.
