Summary: When we think about the factors that increase our productivity at work, we rarely consider diet. But the fact is that eating healthy food contributes to workplace performance. Read on to find out some effective tips to avoid junk food.

Food has a direct impact on our productivity. If we eat unhealthy food, it can derail our general health and performance at work. It is therefore essential to control the tongue because it is the only organ that tempts the mind to eat things which are not good for the body.

Junk food is high in calories, but low in nutrients. The high levels of sugar, fat, and calories in junk food may cause several disorders. If you eat junk food and have a workout the next day, you will feel a significant difference in the way your body responds to exercise. You will be sluggish, tired and will run out of energy very quickly. Similarly, if you have a heavy lunch, you will find yourself sluggish for the rest of the work day. When your body feels poorly, the mind suffers too.

Some of the harmful effects of an unhealthy diet are:

  • Fatigue and listlessness

  • Mind does not feel sharp

  • Increase in stress & depression

  • Increase in irritability

  • Decrease in energy levels

  • Overall fall in productivity

Why do you eat junk food?

  • To satisfy your taste buds

  • Peer pressure when you go out

  • You are enamoured with ads that you see on television so you want to try it once

  • You don’t pay much attention to healthy diet & nutrition

Now before eating junk food just ask yourself :

  • Is that type of food good for your body?

  • Is that going to help you to perform better because the quality of food you give to your body, the same output you will get from your body.

  • Is this food hygienic to eat?

  • Becoming a junk food habitual eater might very soon lead to you needing a doctor.

What should we do now?

  • We must make healthy food choices. Moreover, we must be aware of the drawbacks of eating junk food.

  • Eat mindfully. Be aware of what you are eating and the benefits of eating nutritious food.

  • Help others make good food choices as well. Eating is often an activity that brings people together, so we must take responsibility for the health of our colleagues, family & friends.

  • Consume a wide variety of food. Increase your water intake. Minimize foods high in sugar, salt and refined processed grain products.

It’s time to take ownership of your life and health. The onus is on you to lead a healthy and productive life. It’s time to make smarter food choices and reap the benefits in your daily life and work.
