With geniuses like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates & Mark Zuckerberg as entrepreneurial idols, a common perception is that it takes a genius to launch a successful business, and entrepreneurship is beyond the reach of ordinary people. At a recent question-and-answer session, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made some interesting observations about entrepreneurship and debunked some myths about starting a business.
Zuckerberg asserted, “Even the smartest genius can’t start a company alone.”
Zuckerberg believes that you don't need to be a prodigy to start a company; rather you need to be passionate and focused.
Moreover, starting a business is usually a group effort and requires the expertise of several committed persons. The key is to get a small bunch of people together who share the passion and vision for the venture.
On the media portrayal of start-ups, Mark Zuckerberg says,"It's not as crazy and challenging as the media makes it sound. It's more accessible."
According to Zuckerberg, most of what the average person reads about entrepreneurship supports the notion that starting a business is awfully demanding and challenging. We admire the remarkable successes achieved by highly successful entrepreneurs. We marvel at their achievements but consider them beyond reach. People begin to believe that anybody less than a genius cannot become a successful entrepreneur. However, the truth is -- being an entrepreneur is within one’s reach. One must believe in their own ability. The word ‘impossible’ needs to be eliminated from our dictionary. We are entering an era of entrepreneurship, where it is possible for anyone with passion and a great idea to become a successful entrepreneur.
So there you have it! You heard it from the horse’s mouth. It doesn’t take a genius to start a business. All it takes is a couple of passionate and focused individuals who are driven to pursue their dream over a period of time.
